Boondocking in the Badlands... our favorite spot!

Thursday August 10

Today’s drive is short and sweet—and back to my favorite location to boondock for the most spectacular sunset and sunrise! The Wall. It’s a department of interior spot that literally overlooks the Badlands National Park. Boondocking is free, but you need to arrive before noon if you want the best spots to park a big rig. We first did this in 2022, and I just had to share the experience with Goose and Emma.

We selected a great location, and headed in our car toward Wall to take in lunch at the famous Wall Drugstore. This year (check out our 2022 Boondocking at Badlands video!) we didn’t forget our wallet. Yes, in 2022 we forget money for our trip into downtown Wall, SD. Whoopsie! But, also, if you want really good directions on how to find this amazing parking spot, WATCH THE VIDEO!

BACK TO 2023… I brought credit cards and cash—and ended up with a gorgeous pair of python boots and all the doughnuts I could buy! We elected to take a quick drive into Badlands National Park since we didn’t do this last trip. It was gorgeous! However, I will say, the views from The Wall boondocking are just as impressive and not nearly as crowded.

Mike and I jumped on our Buzz e-bikes for the sunset. I wanted to ride the entire rim this trip—it was worth the ride. Just… WOW. Make sure you watch the new video this year because I got some amazing footage. It will be coming out on Skinner Round-Up’s YouTube Channel within the next couple weeks. Subscribe ➡️ here.

Dinner consisted of another “glamp out” … lanterns glowing, enchiladas, margaritas, and laughter. Oh, and some wild coyotes singing below!
