Alarm was set for 6:15 a.m. today. I wanted time to walk Clyde around the park and enjoy a hot cup of coffee before pulling in the slides and jumping back on I-40 for Colorado.
The RV Life app navigation had us on I-40 for just a few miles before making the north turn onto 87.
One of the things Skinner and I love about RVing is taking a new road and adventure. We never drove 87 North into New Mexico and Colorado! It was going to be about a 6- to 7-hour drive today, with a fuel stop and pull-over lunch break.
The scenery on the drive was beautiful—we spotted lots of antelope and horse farms. Driving along 87 North toward Creede, we noticed that Angel Fire in NM was only 78 miles away just before you enter 25 toward Trinidad. Note to self, book a stop there next trip… I’ve heard from our Bus ‘n’ Biker friends that it’s an amazing resort and experience!
Once we got further into Colorado, we started to drive alongside the Rio Grande River which was stunning. The most perfect log cabin neighborhoods lining the river banks. I was in awe… I could live there.
South Fork was a cute drive thru town, and before we knew it: Creede City Limits.
We booked two nights at the Creede Mountain Views RV Park. Check-in was very easy. Our lot was nice and wide, plenty long, and with full hook-ups. We noticed that one side of the park seemed to be for owners, who constructed small pavilions and/or tent structures for their summers in Creede. Meanwhile, the other side appeared to be all renters, enjoying cool temperatures.
We got parked and settled in for a cook out. Our lot had a picnic bench, but know that the benches are a little worn. So, unless you cover with a towel… BEWARE of butt splinters!
The altitude did get to us a bit. Creede sits at 8,852 feet. Make sure you drink A LOT of water and read up on how to avoid altitude sickness.
